Extensive Reading


Today is Tuesday, In the morning I learned the first class is English Reading Strategics. Before we studied, the teacher had told us about the midterm test scores. I was disappointed when the score was not as hoped.

This class the teacher taugth me about "Extensive Reading" After that, she asked us to write words about "research on English language reading" in spider web on whiteboard.
We did the exercise and responded the questions of this handout. Then teacher answered exercises in worksheets together with guided us. I used the skimming skill by reading the title.

After that I had to exam,  I’m serious too much. I cannot do it and didn't answers many questions. I hadn’t finished the test. However, I believe I am doing my best.

The ASEAN Community 2015


The motto of ASEAN is

“ One Vision, One Identity, One Community.”


When the class stated,The teacher teach new unit “ASEAN Economic Community”. This topic is very interesting and I think it's easy for me. I have some background knowledge. Teacher give me and friend write text words about ASEAN community on the white board .I fond easy to know the name of ASEAN stands for The Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Then she opened video about community from youtube. Everyone interested to see this story. 

Next, She ordered to the student form in group disguss in advantages-disadvantages and how do you address such the impact? After that, each group presentation this topic. I think that it is very nice to practice our Speaking skill as well because we think and speak in English

I had to know strategies for find the answer . It is scanning skill and reading skill. My attitude toward this the lesson was I’m enjoy being a studying today.

Read Faster


Today, We had the reading English strategies class in the morning. The teacher taught me about  " Read faster."  She gave us discussing about obstacls to faster effective reading.
I’m not understand with the texts, Unknown word and stop reading and find unknown word. I would use scanning every word. It makes  reading in English slower.
The lesson is a guide to practice reading. On the topic is Hint for reading practice.  It is a good idea skim through the passage very quickly first to get the general idea of each paragraph.
For reading strategies, I used skim texts to find main gist and scan various texts to find specific information.
When the class finished, the teacher gave corrective feedback for me and my friend. My attitude toward this the lesson was I’m happy with this lesson because it would make my English better.

CLASSIC ANN LANDERS



Today, We learned about "Classic Ann Landers" When the class started, when the class started, she gave us read the letter of Ann Landers to advice to the problem others. After I read, I meet the vocabulary are difficult and I do not understand some content. I used skimming, scanning, finding the main idea. Then, she assigned me to do exercise. I got many vocabularies. I cannot do the exercise of this unit. I found difficult words, phrases and main idea.



I solve my problems by do exercises myself. Sometimes I asked my friends and found the some vocabulary before class.


Sometimes, I felt bad that I can't did exercise and not understand it, but I tried to practise and asked my friends about each problem.

Books and Novels



Today,We had the reading English strategies class in the morning again. The teacher taught me about" Paragraph Reading Strategies: Books" She gave me her hand out. In hand out there are many books and novels Such as

 


Next, she gave us doing the exercise. There are eight short descriptions of books and novels. I read the description from each of books. I used the skimming to read and Scanning to find the details. I think I found difficult words. I don’t understand the meaning and vocabulary. I solve the problems are to find the meaning of words in dictionary online.It helped me a lot.


However, This lesson was very interesting because I like reading novels. I've read Harry Potter ,The Lord of The Rings and The Silence of The Lambs etc. I think reading the books and novels is the way to improve your English Reading Skill as well.

West meets East continue


         
        
Today, we studied about "West meets East"to continue last week. First,the teacher gave us to discuss the questions with a partner about the things in Asia such as celebrities, foods and products in English version. I discussed with my best friend and shared some information each other. 

Then she gave me to do the exercise. After that she told us to read the text about 'Expat in Asia' The text is about the interview with an American English professor (Michael) teaching in Taiwan.I discussed and wrote short answers to the question.

I used skimming, scanning, finding the main idea. Before I read it,  I think difficult words, phrases and main idea. I solve the problems to opened dictionary on my smartphone. 

Finally, The teacher gave corrective feedback for me and my friend. Next week, I have to prepare and  find the information for the next lesson.

West meets East






 

         Today ,We had the reading English strategies with Dr.Ausa Noitim. Teacher started to studied .She taught us about " West meets East." She opened the picture on powerpoint. I was interested. Photos on a PowerPoint about Matial Arts, Mountian Dew, Hello kitty toys,Hidden Dragon,Crouching Tiger, Taza Chai tea, Wasabi mashed potatoes, Bobo drink, Rick Yune, Nicloe Bilderback, Kelly Hu and Lucy Liu. These photos  about culture between west and east. Then she gave to discuss the questions with a partner. She gave us to read the story that was the "Asianization" of the United States. She assign to found meaning of this story.


I think I found difficult words and I don’t understand the meaning and vocabulary. When I had problems, I will try to guess words meaning and I used dictionary on my smartphone.
I used skimming, scanning strategies the main idea. I will try to study before come to the class. I didn't know about vocabulary. I will try to read and translate frequently.

Fashion (Continue)


        On 22 September 2015.We learned about "Fashion" that continues last week. Then the teacher told us to discuss about "The fashion". She taught about hair styles. Then she gave us to do activity vocabulary. We look at the hair styles picture in handout and solve the anagrams about hair such as spiky hair, dreadlocks, shaved head and shanggy hair.  


       We read the Splitting Hair story  then we think ,find and summary  main idea from detail of story. I had a problem because some word is difficult to read.I cannot understand this story and find the main idea.I solved the problem is opened dictionary.I used skimming, scanning the main idea.
       I think the lesson is easy because fashion and hairstyle  is near my life. I like this the lesson. Thank you for reading.

Fashion

On 15 September 2015. We learned new the lesson is "Fashion". I excited this lesson. It's interesting. The teacher assign students to find words that are in association with Fashion on the board such as  fashion, sneakers, fishnet stockings, kimono, T-shirt, halter top, platform shoes, miniskirt, jeans, make up ,high heels and etc. Then she gave worksheet for student. After that, I read the article about “Fusion? Confusion!”I used skimming and scanning skill to find key word.  After that, teacher gave our to make group .To summary  and write the main idea on white board.


I think this the lesson it easy because it is near my life and I like about fashion but sometime I don't understand meaning.

Technology (Continue)

On 8 September 2015,We learned about " Today's technology"continuous.We have a test about 'Healthy Diet' and 'Natural Disasters'. Then she gave our to make group. Teacher told us that she has a worksheets for us to discuss about technology. Each group will have different topics such as Blogging for ELT1, Blogging ELT2, Podcast1, Podcast2, Facebook, Search engine. We discussed in our group. After that we had to share our information to another group. I think this activity is good. Next activities the teacher open the podcast on the internet for practice about pronunciation.

I had problems about vocabulary. Some word is difficult and hard to summary the text. This lesson is rather difficult for me. .I solve the problem are search on the internet. I used  strategies is skimming and scanning.It help practice to speak English. Next class, I think I have to practice about vocabulary and use strategies skill. To make it easier to learn the next lesson.

Technology



On 1 September 2015, Teacher taught me about " Today 's technology "  in Unit 3 . She assign students to find words that are in association with technology. She gave students write the words on the white board about technology. It’s easy for me. I think my friend agree with me. because Technology affects the livelihood today. We often to meet or frequent use of it. Such as Facebook,Line,Twitter,Google ,Blogger or even dictionary online.
 After that the teacher assigned to read story about " Profcasts " read speed, non stop to read and not to translate. I use skimming, prediction are eye catching to reading this story. I had problems about difficult words.
 
I think technology has both advantages and disadvantages .This the lesson is interesting ,enjoyed and easy because I have background knowledge about technology .

Natural Disasters (Continue)

On 25 August 2015, My teacher taught us to continue form last week about Natural Disasters.Teacher taught us about Tsunami in Japan and Wildfires in California .She gave worksheet to me and friends. Then she ordered to read the news stories. I use skimming and scanning skills for comprehension of articles. then The teacher gave corrective feedbag.



I think this lesson it very difficult for me. Because I didn't known the meaning of words and I have problem with answer the question. I solve the problem is opened Oxford dictionary.I and my friend exchange knowledge.It helped me a lot.

On 23 August 2015,The teacher taught us about Natural Disasters. She get to do activities about write the words that are in association with natural disasters such as earthquake, tsunami, flood, hurricane, typhoon, and tornado etc. The teacher opened the video about Tsunami in Japan. She explains this news. We had activities to do in class as I talk about of Natural Disasters with my partner and read the story and answer the question.
                    

I used the skimming skill by reading the title.I think this lesson is interesting because it is near my life. But some word are difficult.

A healthy diet (Continue2)

MY DIET

On 11 August 2015,  The teacher taught me to continue last week. She taught me about “Westerners turn to a Japanese food diet” this week. This article concerned with Japanese food, Japanese cultural and benefit of Japanese food. I found the main idea the topic "No more junk food" The topic about policy to eliminate junk food in the school cafeteria such as Off the menu burgers and sausage, potato and tortilla chips, chocolate and chocolate cookies, sweet and chewing gum.  Then I learned a new article 
" Westerners turn to a Japanese diet" It’s about Japanese Food Diet. when studied,I know Japanese Food help treat cancer.Don't have cholesterol.It was healthy for our health.

I used skimming and scanning strategies to find key words. Some words are difficult and I didn't known the meaning of words. I solve the problems are search for information on the internet.
